Painting your own glassware allows you to create your own design.
Making a handpainted wine glass allows you to create designs that match the decor of the rest of your dishes or a personalized gift to give for a wedding, birthday, anniversary or other special occasion. When you paint on a material, such as glass, you must use a specific kind of paint. With some glass objects, you don't need to worry about the paint wearing off; however, when you are painting a wine glass that will need to be washed, you need to protect the paint.

Step 1
Wash the glass thoroughly to remove any dirt or dust from the glass. Rinse it and dry it completely before painting.
Step 2
Mix glass and tile medium into the acrylic paint to help the paint adhere to the glass better. Use about three drops of the medium for a pool of paint about the size of a quarter.
Step 3
Paint the design onto the glass. Allow the glass to dry for at least eight hours before adding a second coat and at least 24 hours before heating the glass.
Step 4
Place the wine glass into the cool oven. Don't preheat the oven or you will break the glass.
Step 5
Set the oven temperature between 325 and 330 degrees Fahrenheit. Check the instructions on the paint or glass and tile medium for the proper temperature.
Step 6
Bake the glass for 45 minutes once it reaches the proper temperature.
Step 7
Turn the oven off after 45 minutes and allow the glass to cool with the oven. Don't remove the glass until the oven and the glass have completely cooled. Removing the glass while it is hot can damage the glass.
Step 8
Leave the oven open and turn on an outdoor air vent to remove the fumes from the air.
Tip
Always use an oven designated for finishing your painted glass. Never use the same oven in which you cook because of the fumes released by the paint. A hair dryer can also heat-set the paint if you don't have a designated oven. Some paints come already mixed for use on glass so check the label before adding glass and tile medium.
