How to Make My Own Crinkled Paper Shreds

Things You\’ll Need

  • Paper

  • Paper shredder

  • Cardboard box

  • Plastic bag

... Using shredded paper as a packing material is a form of recycling.

While some people shred paper simply to get rid of identifying information on documents, shredded paper can be put to other uses. Shredded pieces of paper can be reused as packing materials, decorations, or even in gift baskets. If you crinkle the paper shreds, they take on an even more decorative look. You may not want to use your personal shredded documents, but you can create your own shredded crinkle paper from colored paper.

Step 1

Fit the paper shredder basket with a cardboard box that fills up a majority of the basket. You should only leave about 1/2 inch at the top of the basket between the box and the shredding mechanism.

Step 2

Replace the cover on the paper shredder basket.

Step 3

Insert the paper you want to turn into crinkled paper shreds into the paper shredder. Keep adding paper until the shredder can no longer accept any more.

Step 4

Unplug the paper shredder and remove the cover. Remove the paper shreds and store them in a bag until you are ready to use them.

Step 5

Repeat the process until you have enough crinkled shredded paper.

Tip

A cross-cutting paper shredder can create smaller strips of crinkled paper shreds instead of full-length strips.

A paper shredder basket filled with other shredded paper can be used instead of a box, but the crinkled paper shreds may become mixed in with the other paper.
